Art Doesn't Always Mimic Life
In dimly lit rooms, pathetic men would croon
love tunes as if their bread had spent too soon.
Frenetic moons dusted her wilted shoulders
as she lifted boulders from the bearded donors.
Liquid posters covered the halls of her cell
where her body dwelled in solicited hell.
The unlimited swell of her docking station
kept the belly full for this rotting maiden.
Desperation defined all of her decisions
evidenced by constantly serving citizens.
She was a turnstile for dick-ended incisions
that would zip in then dip, leaving provisions.
During intermission, she liked to daydream
about wedding rings and living in the mainstream.
She'd use face cream to prevent a haggard face;
Her patrons preferred youth, not old, tattered lace.
With fractured grace, she remained stoic and sweet;
and wrote poetry that was heroic and deep.
Home-sick, indeed; art doesn't always mimic life;
Sometimes it just reminds us of a cynic's fight
to break free from the self chartered downward spiral
of a life imitating a soured cycle.
